  • Minimum recommended browser cache size: 250 MB.

  • Bandwidth and Resolution: The network bandwidth should be minimum 500-800 kbit/s per user and the screen resolution should be XGA 1024×768 (high color) or higher.
  • Web browser cookies should be enabled for the authentication processes.
  • For system data connectivity, SAP Business Warehouse (BW) of 7.3x or higher release is required, for SAP BW/4HANA – SAP BW/4HANA 1.0 SP4 or higher is required and SAP S/4HANA, On-Premise Edition of SAP S/4HANA 1610 with SAP NW release 7.51 SP2 is required.
  • With the SAP Analytics Cloud upgrade to 2019.15, the minimum required agent versions are as follows: SAP BPC (standard only) = 1.0.75, SAP BPC (embedded only) = 1.0.109, SAP BW = 1.0.233

  • If your frontend server is lower than SAP NetWeaver 7.4, then try to get SAP Gateway 2.0 SPS 10 and UI Add-on for SAP NetWeaver 7.30 SPS 10 or higher.
  • Just in case if your backend server is on a lower version than 7.4, then you must get the SAP Gateway Component of SAP IW BEP 200 SP 10 and install it on the server.
  • And lastly, make sure you have all the updates checked and installed before starting the implementation of the My Inbox App.

SES 72: Extension of Transactional Apps – Part 1

Working in SAP Industry, especially in the Application Development and SAP UI5 or SAP Fiori, you might have created many apps for various purposes. Thus, the main objective of my post is to show you how to create a Transactional App and release or publish in the SAP Fiori Launchpad. So, let’s go!

Steps to Create a New Project Using a Template

  • Using your credentials, log into the SAP Web IDE and choose NEW PROJECT FROM A TEMPLATE.
  • Choose SAP FIORI FULL SCREEN APPLICATION template, and then hit NEXT.
  • Give a PROJECT NAME and thereafter, hit NEXT. Now, select the backend server connection from the dropdown menu and look for the OData Service, SRA018_SO_TRACKING_SRV. Then, hit NEXT.
  • In the PROJECT SETTINGS, enter the following details:
  • Now, select the following details in the PAGE 2 SECTION & NAVIGATION SECTION and hit NEXT.
  • Once done, hit FINISH to finish your project. Thus, this is the detailed procedure of how to create a new project in the Fiori Launchpad using the Template in the system.

You can test the app you create in the SAP Fiori Launchpad using the mock data and also by checking is all the fields show the exact correct data. In order to do so, dive into the the steps for the same.

Steps to Check/Test App Using Mock Data

  • In the library, select the project that you want to test. Let’s say you wish to test TRACKSALESORDER project, then select INDEX.HTML by right-clicking on it.
  • Choose RUN * RUN WITH MOCK DATA.
  • If you want to display all parameters of PAGE 2 and NAVIGATION SECTION, then click on sales order row following the second (next) screen. That’s how you can test all your create apps in the Launchpad. Now, comes the deploying part of the apps.

Deployment of Apps to the Backend Server

In order to understand how to deploy app to the backend server, let’s dig deep:

  • Click on your project and choose DEPLOY * DEPLOY TO SAPUI5 ABAP REPOSITORY.
  • Provide any DESCRIPTION, NAME and PACKAGE for the same.
  • Select FINISH to complete the project.

How to Publish an App to SAP Fiori Launchpad?

Following are the steps to publish an App to the SAP Fiori Launchpad:

  • Log into the SAP Server using your credentials and with the help of transaction (Tcode) SICF, test the app you have deployed and want to add in the SAP Fiori Launchpad.
  • Now, build a new launchpad using transaction LPD_CUST.
  • Provide the application URL parameters for your app. Now, provide APPLICATION ALIAS and SAP UI5 component details.
  • Create a new catalog in SAP Fiori Launchpad.
  • Fill in these details in the new target mapping:
  • Now, create a new tile and select a new icon and provide the details like TITLE, SEMANTIC OBJECT and ACTION.
  • Once you build a new role in the ABAP system, assign launchpad catalog and user to the role. Now, you should be able to see the new Sales Order Tracker App that you created in the catalog.
  • Finally, add the app into any group or simply MY HOME group and launch the app.

Thus, by now you’ve seen how to build and deploy a transactional app to the ABAP server and finally, publish it into the SAP Fiori Launchpad.

  • In order to create an Analytical App without the SAP Smart Business Modeler, the first and foremost step is to activate the SAP UI5 application.
  • Once your SAP UI5 application is activated, you should assign SAP HANA role to a user, specifically a product-specific role), which will allow users to access KPI data. And post assigning the role, the user should be granted the access for the role sap.hba.apps.sfin.s.roles::fiori_sfin.
  • The nest step in the procedure to create an Analytical App without SAP Smart Business Modeler is to assign an app-specific PFCG role for the business catalog to the user. Once the app assignment is confirmed, the user will be able to access to the business catalog in the SAP Fiori Launchpad.

In order to get the SAP HANA Express Edition, you can either get a FREE On-Premise Version or Sign Up for Cloud Deployment.

Prerequisites for Installation of SAP HANA Express Edition

  • The free SAP HANA Express edition is available for development and productive use – up to 32GB of RAM.
  • You must have a minimum of 8GB RAM for the database server only and 16GB for the database + XS Advanced applications. If you don’t have RAM sufficient for installation, then you can deploy SAP HANA Express edition in the cloud, as an option.
  • The SAP HANA merges in-memory database with analytics like machine learning libraries and geospatial.

Did you know that Fiori Analytical Apps that use SAP Smart Business Modeler are usually launched via KPI tiles. Let’s understand that with an example. The app called, Day Sales Outstanding app, lets you filter with many parameters, and then check the app by customer country with the company code. You can refer to the online library of SAP Fiori Apps available, for your reference. So, let’s begin!

What is exactly SAP Smart Business Modeler?

The Smart Business Modeler comes as a part of the SAP Business Suite, which lets the user to model KPIs and report tiles regulating targeted monitoring of key business data with the help of Fiori Launchpad. You can also apply various evaluations in the SAP Smart Business Modeler. You can define reports and KPI tiles as well in the Modeler and also include add-ons like drilldown views accessible via KPI tile.

Steps to Create a KPI Tile

  • Log into the Fiori Launchpad and select CREATE KPI app under the KPI MODELER group.
  • On the next screen, fill in all the details that are mandatory:
  • Once you’re done, click NEXT.
  • On the new screen, you’ll see fields like VALUE MEASURE, SAP HANA VIEW, ENTITY SET, ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, ODATA SERVICE and SEMANTIC OBJECT/ACTION.
  • When you provide all the information for all fields, click on ACTIVATE AND ADD EVALUATION.

Evaluation of a KPI is nothing but, the information about the KPI or report, that’s visible to user at runtime. It can be merge of thresholds, variants, trends, parameters and authorizations for the KPI. Now, let’s jump onto the steps for creating evaluations of KPI.

The SAP Web Dispatcher directs OData request from client to SAP HANA XS, when a user opens and opens an Analytical app from SAP Fiori Launchpad. Since, SAP HANA stores definitions of data and KPI, so make sure that the users are given appropriate access rights. Apart from generic roles assigned to users, SAP provides a role for each analytical app plus the app-specific rights or privileges. So, let’s get into the steps for the same.

Steps to provide role to a particular user in SAP HANA

  • Log into SAP HANA Studio and select SECURITY * USERS.
  • Now, click on user name and hit the + button to open GRANTED ROLES TAB.
  • Choose the desired evaluation and click on AUTHORIZE USERS AND ROLES. Although you can jump between roles and users by choosing their respective icons.
  • Now, choose USER or ROLE by clicking the checkbox. And hit SAVE.

The SAP Web IDE stands for SAP Web Integrated Development Environment, which is used to generate and extend SAP Fiori apps. It is nothing but a browser-based tool to let developers and programmers create new user experience.

SAP Web IDE helps in building modern applications for desktops and smart phones (mobiles) with the help of UI. The SAP Web IDE is a flexible with editors to help programmers who wish to develop SAP Fiori applications in an efficient manner. It’s also designed for lesser end-to-end application development life cycle, previewing, developing and deploying SAP Fiori applications. Shown below is the basic architecture schematic of SAP Web IDE.

Let’s dig into the blocks of SAP Web IDE architecture.

  • SAP HANA Cloud Platform (now, SAP Cloud Platform): Here, you can create and deploy applications in the cloud.
  • COCKPIT: The SAP HANA Cloud Cockpit is the central point where applications and other details can be managed using web-based interface.
  • SAP Web IDE: Here, all the development of the application happens.
  • SAPUI5: This is used to build applications.
  • Git: Git is considered as repository to regulate version of your application.
  • Orion: It is a workspace where all project files are stored. It also lets you to work on projects stored in the workspace.
  • SAP Gateway: This one connects SAP Web IDE and your system to access OData services.
  • SAP HANA Cloud Connector: The connector integrates SAP Web IDE and SAP HCP, in a safe manner.

In the context of applications development, SAP Web IDE is called the next-generation cloud-based development environment, since it gives real-time code review and testing. SAP Web IDE lets you collaborate with other designers and developers to achieve expectation and desired output accurately and efficiently.

Setting up with SAP Web IDE

Here’s my easy step-by-step procedure to set up development environment with SAP Web IDE on the cloud:

  • Launch the SAP Cockpit and login using your credentials. If you don’t have an account yet, create one by clicking on Register.
  • Click on SUBSCRIPTIONS once you log into your account.
  • Go to NEW SUBSCRIPTION and select SAP Web IDE and hit SAVE to save your subscription.
  • So, now you’re subscribed to SAP Web IDE. Under the APPLICATION tab, select Web IDE.
  • Now, launch the SAP Web IDE by clicking on the APPLICATION URL.

This way you can launch and subscribe to SAP Web IDE. Then, the next step will be to build a connection to the backend system. Thus, follow the steps below to configure destination is the backend server is publicly accessible on the internet.

  • Click on DESTINATIONS of the homepage of SAP CLOUD PLATFORM COCKPIT. And then, click NEW DESTINATION.
  • Now, provide these details: NAME: Enter “Connection1”, TYPE: HTTP, DESCRIPTION: Connection1, URL: <protocol>://<host>:<port>”, PROXY TYPE: Internet, CLOUD CONNECTOR VERSION: 2, AUTHENTICATION: select the authentication.
  • Under the PROPERTIES area, click on NEW PROPERTY and fill in all the required details in the window.
  • Once you’re done entering all the details, hit SAVE to save the connection.

The main function of the SAP Cloud Connector is to merge SAP HCP and existing on-premise systems. There are two versions of SAP Cloud Connector, available – Developer and Productive. The Developer version can be installed on any device without any authentication, where the Productive version of the SAP Cloud Connector requires administration access before installation on the system.

Development Process of SAP Web IDE

  • Once you successfully log into SAP Web IDE, you’ll be able to see the development page. On top of the development page, you’ll find the menu bar, that lets you access all functions available in SAP Web IDE.
  • The second one is the tool bar consisting of common functions like DELTE, SAVE, RUN, etc.
  • You’ll find DEVELOPMENT preferences on the side of the DEVELOPMENT page. Now, click on DEVELOPMENT to open a set of projects and files within a project.
  • You can check out the contents of the file in the code editor.
  • You can open multiple files to see the code editor area of each file. They’ll be displayed to you as individual tabs.
  • On the right side, you’ll also find functions like Git PANE, Git HISTORY, Search and COLLABORATION.
